Overwhelmed by the prospect of homeschooling? Unsure where to start?

Allow me to guide you on your journey to homeschooling!

I am often asked about curriculum choices and how to get started with homeschooling. Many parents trying to transition into homeschooling get overwhelmed by the vast amount of information & choices out there as they are used for those decisions to be made for them by others, and find the lack of support challenging.

There are multiple methodologies & philosophies to homeschooling, and many curriculum choices to explore. A main part of the homeschooling journey is the RESEARCH done BY THE PARENTS. Each family has different religious/cultural /lifestyle beliefs that ultimately make their homeschool philosophy & choices distinctly different and unique to their family. It is nothing like the public/private school cookie-cutter curriculum. What is right for one family isn’t necessarily right for another. Homeschooling is about trial & error, getting to know yourself, your strength, your weaknesses, and your limits better & your children’s strengths and weaknesses better. It is about exploring & getting to know your family core & values on a deeper level! You will begin a journey filled with triumphs & challenges doing what YOU think is best for them!

$$$ Homeschooling can be free using a single LIBRARY CARD or as fancy and elaborate as your budget allows. There’s no one way to do it.

Here’s a beginners roadmap & guide to homeschooling success 🏡

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with your state’s homeschooling laws & requirements (Google search)

Step 2: Identify the homeschool philosophy you are most comfortable with.

Step 3: File a letter of intent to homeschool with the county or register with an umbrella school such as Florida Unschoolers.

Step 5:

Find local homeschooling groups & co-ops for support and socialization opportunities. DO NOT be afraid to meet people that are different than you!! Step out of your comfort zone! You’ll be pleasantly surprised ❤️

Step 6:

Establish a routine and structure that works for YOUR family!

Step 7:

Keep records such as activity logs, reading log, take photos & videos to document your journey, field trips & extracurricular log, photos or list of any formal curriculum used (if any), etc.

Remember….. all homeschoolers need to show is GROWTH & PROGRESS!

Step 8:

Reach out to a state-certified educator or a licensed psychologist to complete your annual evaluation and file it within 30 days of your initial filing date to homeschool.

*** If you need support - reach out to family members, close friends, local organizations (churches, synagogues, etc.), local businesses, Microschools, and other homeschooling families! It really does take a village!

Read daily, explore your children’s natural interests, enjoy your children, and seize the moment!
